When it comes to LLM-based agents, there is no universally accepted definition, but we can extend the philosophical definition to say that an agent is an intelligent(?) entity that leverages LLMs to solve complex tasks by interacting with the environment via a set of tools. Since LLMs possess good understanding, reasoning & generation capabilities, it makes sense for agents to utilize them as backbone for solving complex tasks. Interestingly, note that the definition above does not involves external (like human) assistance or intervention at any step. So agents have complete power to make choices that take them towards the goal for which they are created!
